SCIENTIFIC DIRECTOR OF EIT-M, MEKELLE UNIVERSITY
Message from the ScientiDZ c Director of the Ethiopian Institute of Technology-Mekelle (EiT-M), Mekelle University
It is with immense pleasure and a profound sense of anticipation that I welcome you to the Second International Conference on Engineering and Technology (ICET2025), hosted by the Ethiopian Institute of Technology -Mekelle (EiT-M) at Mekelle University. Building upon the foundation laid by our inaugural conference in 2020, ICET2025 represents a crucial platform for reigniting global collaboration and knowledge exchange in engineering and technology, fields critical to addressing the complex challenges and harnessing the opportunities of our era.
This conference is strategically focused on seven interconnected thematic pillars that define the forefront of technological advancement and sustainable development: Advanced Materials Science and Engineering, underpinning innovation across all sectors; Chemical Engineering and Green Process Innovation, driving sustainable industrial transformations; Digitalization, AI and Computational Engineering, revolutionizing design, analysis, and decision-making; Electrical Engineering and Smart Systems, enabling intelligent infrastructure and connectivity; Renewable Energy , Water Harvesting and Environmental Engineering, essential for securing a sustainable future; Smart Manufacturing, Textile Engineering, Garment, Fashion Design, Agro-industrial Technologies and Entrepreneurship, fostering value addition, industrial growth, and economic diversification; and Sustainable Architecture, Water Management, and Urban Development, shaping resilient and livable communities. The deliberate integration of these themes within ICET2025 reflects our understanding that progress hinges on interdisciplinary synergy – where breakthroughs in materials science enable smarter manufacturing and renewable energy systems, where digitalization optimizes environmental engineering and urban planning, and where entrepreneurship transforms technological innovation into societal benefit.
As Scientific Director of EiT-M, I am deeply committed to fostering an environment where cutting-edge research meets practical application for local and Africa's development imperatives. ICET2025 embodies this mission. The research, insights, and solutions presented within these pages, spanning our seven core themes, represent significant contributions from the global engineering community. It is through such vibrant discourse and shared knowledge that we can collectively advance technological frontiers, develop sustainable solutions to pressing global issues like climate change and resource scarcity, and empower the next generation of engineers and technologists. I extend my sincere gratitude to all authors, reviewers, organizers, and participants whose dedication has made this conference and its proceedings possible. May the collaborations spark at ICET2025 drive impactful innovation and contribute meaningfully to building a more well-off , sustainable, and technologically empowered world.
